Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED)

  1. Genesis: Formed in 1987 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984.
  2. About: the cooperative body at the national level is run by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  3. Objective: socio-economic development of the nation's tribal people through the promotion of tribal products.
  4. Scheme: PM Van Dhan Yojana
  5. Function: establishing a formal system for trading in minor forest products and surplus agricultural produce (SAP) that native people gather and grow.

Asian Development Bank (ADB)

  1. In order to increase India's access to essential urban services, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has authorized a $400 million policy-based loan for the country's Sustainable Urban Development and Service Delivery Program.
  2. The UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East conducted its inaugural Ministerial Conference on Asian Economic Cooperation in 1963, and a resolution therein led to the organization's establishment in 1966.
  3. While continuing its efforts to end extreme poverty in the region, it sees an Asia and Pacific region that is wealthy, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
  4. There are 68 members, 49 of them are from Asia and the Pacific. A member is India.
  5. Japan, the United States, the People's Republic of China, India, and Australia are the five largest shareholders in ADB.
  6. The Board of Governors is the highest policy-making body of ADB.

Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (VCDR)

  1. With reference to VCDR, New Zealand criticized India's demand that 41 Canadian diplomats leave.
  2. Currently, 193 parties have ratified the Convention, which was first signed in 1961.
  3. The treaty was ratified by India in 1965.
  4. to make certain that "friendly relations among nations" grow.
  5. It presents a framework for international diplomatic relations.
  6. Key provisions:

  • It outlines the roles that diplomatic missions play.
  • enumerates special guidelines for the privileges and immunities granted to diplomats and their missions.
  • ensures unhindered contact between the sending State and a mission.

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (PMKSY-AIBP)

  1. The Uttarakhand Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project has been accepted for inclusion in the PMKSYAIBP by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
  2. It calls for building a dam across the Gaula River, a tributary of the Ramganga River.
  3. Launched in 2015–16, PMKSY is a Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
  4. Objective: to increase farmland under guaranteed irrigation, enhance the efficiency of water consumption on the farm, etc.
  5. PMKSY Components:

  • AIBP component (Ministry of Jal Shakti) provides central assistance to major/ medium irrigation projects.
  • Har Khet ko Pani (Ministry of Jal Shakti).
  • Per Drop More Crop (Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare).
  • Integrated Watershed Management Programme (Ministry of Rural Development).

Summit of the Three Basins

  1. It is held in Brazzaville (the Capital of Congo).
  2. Three basins:
  • Congo basin: Spans across Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
  • Amazon Basin: It extends over 9 countries in South America.
  • Borneo-Mekong-Southeast Asia Basin.

25 by 25 Target

  1. The Indian Council of Medical Research has conducted an analysis which suggests that India is unlikely to meet the 25 by 25 aim.
  2. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations established the 25 by 25 aim in 2013.
  3. By 2025, it aims to reduce premature mortality from four Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) by 25% from 2010 levels.
  4. Diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases (CRD), cancer, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are the four main noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
  5. India's premature mortality rate for these four NCDs is expected to drop by 13.9% between 2010 and 2025.

Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI)

  1. The 43rd PRAGATI meeting was recently chaired by the PM.
  2. It is an interactive, multifunctional ICT platform that was introduced in 2015.
  3. The aim is to establish a culture of timely implementation and proactive governance.
  4. Objective: to handle complaints while keeping an eye on and evaluating significant government initiatives and activities.
  5. With assistance from the National Informatics Center (NIC), the PMO team created the system internally.
  6. PMO, Union Government Secretaries and State Chief Secretaries make up its three-tier structure.

International Competition Network (ICN)

  1. For the first time, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) joined the ICN steering group.
  2. The duration of CCI membership is two years.
  3. With 140 agencies representing competition authorities, the ICN is a specialized, unofficial network.
  4. The mission of the ICN is to promote the global adoption of better practices and standards for competition law.
  5. Its apex body, the 18-member Steering Group, provides direction.

Indian Army Gets Vertical Wind Tunnel

  1. The first Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT) for the Indian Army was obtained by the Special Forces Training School (SFTS) in Himachal Pradesh, improving the training facilities for combat free-fallers and special forces.
  2. The VWT simulates real-world freefall situations in a controlled environment, aimed at enhancing combat free fall (CFF) skills among military personnel. The VWT reproduces various CFF circumstances by producing distinct air velocities.
  3. It helps in evaluating individual reactions in an aerial operating environment by simulating a variety of freefall circumstances, which benefits both inexperienced and seasoned freefallers as well as CFF instructors.

RISUG: Reversible Male Contraceptive

  1. Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance (RISUG), a male contraceptive, has been the subject of a seven-year study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which concluded that it is both safe and effective.
  2. An injectable non-hormonal contraception that offers total reversibility and long-lasting sterility is called RISUG.
  3. Styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) polymer gel is injected as part of the RISUG procedure. By infusing dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) into the vas deferens, a solvent that dissolves and flushes out polymer gel, it can be reversed.

Indian Economy to Surpass Japan by 2030: S&P Global

  1. The Indian economy is expected to outpace both Germany and Japan by 2030, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence, with GDP (Gross Domestic Product) rising from USD 3.5 trillion in 2022 to USD 7.3 trillion by that time.
  2. India is now ranked fifth in the world with an economy valued at USD 3.7 trillion in 2023–2024.
  3. India's economy is predicted to surpass Japan and become the second largest in the Asia-Pacific region as a result of its rapid expansion.
  4. India's favourable long-term economic prospects, fueled by its youthful demographic composition and rising urban family incomes, position it for this kind of growth.
  5. India's middle class, together with the country's rapidly expanding industrial and consumer markets, attracts international businesses looking to invest there.

Iceland (Capital: Reykjavík)

  1. The Prime Minister of Iceland joined the women on strike over equal pay.
  2. Political Boundaries:

  • An island country in the North Atlantic Ocean is located between Greenland and Norway.
  • Iceland is a member of NATO.
  • Its coastline meets the Greenland Sea (north), Norwegian Sea (east), Atlantic Ocean (south and west), and Denmark Strait (which separates it from Greenland on the northwest).
