Any official data on the number of registered candidates is not provided on how many candidates applied for the UPSC Exams, Therefore, for UPSC Prelims 2024 as well, there is no official figure has been published. But as per some reports, around 12-15 lakh candidates have applied for the exam. The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination consists of two papers, both of which are compulsory. The exam serves as a screening test and the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted for determining the final merit. Here is a detailed explanation of the pattern:

General Studies Paper-I (GS-I)
