UPSC Prelims 2023 Answer Key

UPSC successfully conducted the CSE 2023 Prelims stage exam on 28th May 2023 (Sunday). The exam consisted of two papers –GS Paper 1  and the CSAT paper.

UPSC Prelims 2023 Answer Key for GS Paper-I

The Paper-I has 100 questions, which carry two marks each. There is a negative marking of 0.66 marks for each wrong answer.

How to Calculate Your Score of UPSC Prelims After Negative Marking?

UPSC Prelims exam is the first stage of the IAS exam and is considered to be the toughest and most unpredictable stage of the exam. The cut-off of the prelim exam is hard to predict and so is the score that the aspirant is getting as the official score and cut-off are released by UPSC only after the completion of the entire examination process.

However, candidates can still get a rough idea about their scores by matching their marked options with the unofficial answer keys released by several coaching institutes on the prelim exam day evening.

Calculations For GS Paper

Count your number of correct answers and incorrect answers. Multiply your number of correct answers by 2 and incorrect answers by 0.66. Subtract your correct answer score with the incorrect answer score to get your final score.

For example,

No. of correct answers: 50 (50x2=100)

No. of incorrect answers: 25 (25x0.66=16.5)

Final score- 100-16.5= 83.5

Calculations For CSAT paper

For CSAT Paper, Count your number of correct answers and incorrect answers. Multiply your number of correct answers by 2.5 and incorrect answers by 0.83. Subtract your correct answer score with the incorrect answer score to get your final score.

For example,

No. of correct answers: 50 (50x2.5=125)

No. of incorrect answers: 25 (25x0.83=20.75)

Final score- 125-20.75=104.25

However, these scores will only be probable. So, students who are getting marks around last year's cut-off should start preparing for the Mains exam rather than waiting for the prelims result which is declared by UPSC usually 20 days after the Prelims exam.
