Context         

Recently, the National Event on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) was held in Mumbai.

Key Highlights of the Event

  1. The event highlighted significant aspects and accomplishments of PMMVY, its journey, and the features of the PMMVY Portal and Mobile App.
  2. In order to correctly identify eligible beneficiaries, a new PMMVY Portal (PMMVYsoft MIS) has been built with new features including "facial authentication technology" from UIDAI.
  3. It also includes NPCI Verification of beneficiary bank accounts to provide seamless Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payment transfers.
  4. Additionally, it gives beneficiaries and Anganwadi/ASHA workers the option to register online without using paper forms by using the portal.

What is Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)?

  5. Objectives:     
  • in order to enable the mother to have the necessary rest both before and after giving birth to her first child, to partially compensate for her lost income in the form of a cash incentive.
  • to encourage pregnant women and lactating mothers (PW&LM) to seek health care more often.
  1. Eligibility: All pregnant women and lactating mothers (PW&LM) are covered by the scheme; however, PW&LM who work regularly for the federal government, state governments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), or who receive comparable benefits from other sources are not eligible.    
  2. Limitations: Provided that the second child is a girl, a mother is entitled to the maternity benefit for her first two children.
  3. Benefits:
  • Conditional Maternity benefit of 5,000 for the first living child of the family.
  • Institutional delivery and incentive available Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) are also provided. Therefore, on average, a woman gets 6000.
  • Support to girl child: An incentive of ₹6,000 in a single instalment is provided following birth of the second girl child.
