The second edition of the India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise, called "IMT TRILAT 24," concluded successfully in Nacala, Mozambique, on March 28th, 2024. The week-long exercise was designed to promote maritime cooperation and operational compatibility amongst the naval forces of India, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
IMT TRILAT 24: Key Highlights
Harbour Phase (21-24 Mar 24):
- Extensive training took place on INS Tir in Zanzibar and INS Sujata in Maputo.
- Training included Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) techniques, damage control, firefighting drills, communication procedures and medical lectures.
- Special attention was paid to CPR demonstration and casualty evacuation (CASEVAC).
Sea Phase (24 Mar 24 onwards):
- INS Tir and INS Sujata were manned by sailors from the Tanzanian and Mozambican navies.
- Joint operation with Mozambican naval ship Naamatili and Tanzanian naval ship Fatundu.
- Mock VBSS exercises, night manoeuvres, and joint surveillance of the EEZ from Tanzania and Mozambique.
Closing Ceremony:
- Held onboard INS Tir and INS Sujata at Nacala, Mozambique with representatives from all three navies.
- The exercise highlighted successful cooperation, understanding of maritime capabilities and shared objectives achieved.
- Emphasis was laid on continuing cooperation towards maritime security and regional stability.
Additional Activities:
- Various official and training exchanges, cross deck visits, sporting events and yoga sessions.
- Over 1500 people, including school children and Indian expatriates, participated in outreach activities in Zanzibar, Maputo and Nacala.
- Visits to the Mazzini Orphanage Center in Zanzibar and the Obra Dam Orio Reception Center in Maputo to promote bonds of friendship.
