GEAC Approves Import of GM Alfalfa Hay from the US

  1. The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) has granted approval for the import of genetically modified (GM) alfalfa hay from the United States. However, the final clearance is still pending from India’s Ministry of Agriculture.
  2. This development has gained attention as the US has raised concerns related to the import during ongoing trade discussions with India.
