What are Dark Patterns?
- Dark Patterns: A dark pattern refers to a design or user interface technique that is intentionally created to manipulate or deceive users into making certain choices or taking specific actions that may not be in their best interest.
- It is a deceptive practice used to influence user behaviour in favour of the company using it.
- It aims to create and prototype cutting-edge applications or software that can identify suspicious activity on e-commerce sites.
- Add-ons for browsers, mobile apps, and other programs might be included.
- Prior to this, the government released draft guidelines for the prevention and regulation of dark patterns in 2023 under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
