  1. The Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) 2023-24 was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
  2. The survey covers the reference period from October 2023 to September 2024.
  3. ASUSE provides insights into the performance of unincorporated non-agricultural sector enterprises and their contributions to employment, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and socio-economic dynamics in India.

Gross Domestic Product

1. Significant Sectoral Growth

  1. Total Number of Establishments:

    1. 2022-23: 6.50 crore establishments.
    2. 2023-24: 7.34 crore establishments.
    3. Growth: 12.84% increase in the number of establishments.
  2. Growth by Sector:

    1. Other Services sector: 23.55% growth in the number of establishments.
    2. Manufacturing sector: 13% growth in the number of establishments.
  3. Gross Value Added (GVA):

    1. 2022-23: GVA growth across all sectors.
    2. 2023-24: Overall GVA increased by 16.52%.
      • Other Services sector led the growth with a 26.17% rise in GVA.

    1. 2022-23: Around 11 crore workers were employed in the unincorporated sector.

    2. Manufacturing sector: 10.03% increase in employment.
  3. Female-Owned Proprietary Establishments:

    2. 2023-24: Female-owned establishments increased to 26.2%, showing a significant rise in gender inclusivity.

    1. The average wages grew by 13% in 2023-24 compared to the previous year.
    2. Manufacturing sector experienced the highest wage growth at 16.3%.

  1. Gross Value Added (GVA) per Worker:

    1. 2022-23: Rs. 1,41,769 in current prices.
    2. 2023-24: Increased to Rs. 1,49,742, marking a 5.62% increase in labour productivity.
  2. Gross Value of Output (GVO) per Establishment:

    1. 2022-23: Rs. 4,63,389 in current prices.
    2. 2023-24: Increased to Rs. 4,91,862, reflecting an increase in the value of output per establishment.

4. Digital Adoption

  1. Internet Usage:

    1. 2022-23: Around 21.1% of establishments were using the internet for business operations.
    2. 2023-24: This number increased to 26.7%, indicating a 5.6% increase in digital adoption among establishments.

  1. The data highlights the unincorporated sector's contribution to India’s economic recovery and growth trajectory.
  2. Sectoral Growth in Other Services and Manufacturing shows resilience and growth potential in key industries.
