  1. Recently, the Indian delegation, led by CBI and NIA, urged countries to deny safe havens to criminals at the 91st Interpol General Assembly in Vienna.
  2. Indian agencies have brought back wanted criminals and fugitives by using Interpol channels more and improving ties with global law enforcement.
  3. A fugitive is someone who has fled or is running away from the country, typically to avoid arrest or legal consequences.

Key Highlights of the 91st Interpol General Assembly:

  1. Resolutions passed to work together against financial crime, corruption and online child exploitation.
  2. Talks centered on teaming up with global law enforcement to fight organized crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, online radicalization and cyber crimes.
  3. Push for immediate prevention of these crimes.
  4. Support for adopting Interpol's Vision 2030 and forming the Interpol Future Council was shown at the assembly.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is designated as India's NCB for Interpol.

 

What is CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)?

  1. It is the Premier investigative police agency in India, which assists Central Vigilance Commission and Lokpal.
  2. It operates under the Department of Personnel, Ministry of Personnel, Pension & Public Grievances, Government of India.
  3. Also, it serves as the nodal police agency in India, coordinating investigations for Interpol Member countries.
