PROJECT UDBHAV

 

Context

• Recently, the Indian Army and the United Service Institution of India (USI) concluded a hybrid panel discussion as part of Project Udbhav that was centered on "The Evolution of Indian Military Systems, Warfare, and Strategic Thinking: Current Research and Future Directions."

Highlights of the discussion

1. The discussion's focus was on the Kautilya, Kamandaka, and The Kural, but it also included the study of ancient literature from the fourth century BCE to the eighth century CE. 
2. The panel discussion has clearly highlighted India's extensive and sometimes under-researched strategic and military history. 
3. The Indian Army seeks to develop its officers' ability to apply ancient knowledge in contemporary contexts and also to provide a greater understanding of international relations and other cultures. 
4. This is accomplished by reintroducing these classical teachings into the modern military and strategic realms.

Project Udbhav

1. About: A program launched by the Indian Army to reestablish people with the rich Indian tradition of statecraft and strategic ideas drawn from old Indian books on diplomacy, warcraft, and grand strategy.
2. Objectives: It strives to build a native strategic vocabulary that is strongly based in India's rich philosophical and cultural past while bridging the historical and the modern.
3. Military Heritage Festival: On October 21 and 22, 2023, the USI will host a Military Heritage Festival in partnership with Project Udbhav.
