The Supreme Court recently declined to stay the counseling for medical college admissions due to alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) examination 2024.

About the National Testing Agency (NTA):

1. Establishment: The NTA was established by the Ministry of Education in 2017 as an autonomous testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions.

Functions of the NTA:

1. Conducting Entrance Examinations: The NTA conducts entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions.

2. Question Bank Creation: The NTA creates a question bank using modern techniques.

3. Research and Development: The NTA establishes a robust research and development culture.

4. International Collaboration: The NTA collaborates with international organizations like ETS (Educational Testing Services).

5. Other Examinations: The NTA undertakes any other examination entrusted to it by the Ministries/Departments of the Government of India or State Governments.

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test):

1. Purpose: NEET is an entrance examination for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical courses (MBBS/BDS) and postgraduate courses (MD/MS) in government or private medical colleges.

2. Objective: The primary objective of NEET is to standardize the admission process for medical and dental courses across India, ensuring a uniform evaluation of candidates' eligibility.

The NTA conducts NEET on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
