
On May 30, Indian Naval Ship INS Shivalik on Saturday left Singapore for Yokosuka, Japan. It plans to participate in the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX) and the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) military exercise.
INS Shivalik:
- It is the first ship in its class of multi-role stealth frigates designed for the Indian Navy.
- It is India's first domestically built stealth warship.
- It was constructed by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.
- It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 29, 2010.
Features:
- It measures 142.5 meters (468 ft) long, 16.9 meters (55 ft) wide, and has a draft of 4.5 meters (15 ft).
- The ships have a displacement of around 4,900 tons (4,800 long tons; 5,400 short tons) at normal load and 6,200 tons (6,100 long tons; 6,800 short tons) at full load.
- Its maximum speed is 32 knots (59 km/h).
- Compared to earlier Talwar-class frigates, it has enhanced stealth and land-attacking capabilities.
- It is the first Indian Navy vessel to be equipped with the CODOG propulsion system.
- Combined Diesel and Gas propulsion solutions Additional boost power, for maximal thrust.
- It has a combination of Russian, Indian, and Western weapons systems.
What is Dharma Guardian:
- It is an annual exercise that alternates between India and Japan.
- The goal of the exercise is to strengthen military cooperation and enhance combined capabilities to conduct joint operations in semi-urban areas under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
