About the G7:

  1. The Framework: The G7 (Group of Seven) is an intergovernmental organization for political and economic cooperation among seven advanced economies.
  2. Membership: Its members include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union as a non-enumerated member.
  3. History: Established in 1975, the G7 initially expanded to include Russia in the late 1990s, forming the G8. However, Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 resulted in its suspension from the group.
  4. Function: The G7 convenes annually to discuss and coordinate economic policies, addressing broader global concerns such as monetary policy, security, energy, and climate change.
  5. Significance: While lacking the power to enact laws, the G7's previous decisions have had profound global impacts.
  6. Summits: The annual G7 summit, hosted in rotation by member countries, serves as a platform for leaders to engage in discussions on pressing global issues and coordinate policy responses.

Upcoming Summit: The 2024 G7 summit will be held from June 13 to 15 in Apulia, Italy, with Italy holding the G7 presidency for that year.

The European Union:

  1. The European Union (EU) is a distinctive partnership involving 27 European countries, known as Member States or EU countries.
  2. With a population of approximately 447 million, the EU represents around 6% of the world's population.
  3. Citizens of EU countries also hold EU citizenship.
