PRELIMS
(1ST STAGE)
IN JUNE
Only around 5 Lakhs students appear in the 1st stage as the attempt is counted if a student appears in the 1st stage.
GS – It has 100 questions of 2 marks each. It has a total of 200 marks.
CSAT – It has 80 questions of 2.5 marks each. It is only qualifying. If any student gets 33% in this, his marks in the GS paper decide his selection in Prelims.

MAINS
(2ND STAGE)
IN OCTOBER
Around 10,000 students clear 1st stage and qualify for this 2nd stage.
2nd stage has a total of 9 SUBJECTIVE TYPE PAPERS with NO NEGATIVE MARKING.
GS - I : History, Culture, Geography & Society.
GS - II : Constitution, Polity, Governance & International Relations.
GS - III : Economic, Development, Security, Disaster Management, etc.
GS - IV : Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude.
Essay : Essay on Current Events.
Hindi : Paper A - Any One Of The Indian Language.
English : Paper B - English Language.
Optional: Paper 1
Optional: Paper 2
Merit is decided by marks of 1st 7 papers and last 2 papers are of only qualifying nature

INTERVIEW
(3RD STAGE IN FEBRUARY)
Around 2500 students clear the 2nd stage and qualify for this 3rd stage.
3rd stage has only 1 Interview of around 30 minutes by 5 members.
In the interview, the personality of the candidate is checked. Even if, a candidate gives very few replies with normal communication skills if he gives logical replies then he is selected for IAS.
It is conducted only offline.
It is conducted only in Delhi, UPSC.
Out of 2500 students, around 1000 students are finally selected for the civil services.
