  1. On 13th March, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) portal, a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  2. The portal aims to provide credit support to marginalized segments of society.

Key Highlights:

  1. Prime Minister Modi unveiled the PM-SURJ national portal online, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to the upliftment of the underprivileged.
  2. The initiative involves providing credit support to 1 lakh entrepreneurs from underprivileged communities.
  3. During the programme, beneficiaries from various states including Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Safai Mitras interacted with the Prime Minister.

Distribution of Ayushman Health Cards and PPE Kits:

  1. The Ministry distributed Ayushman health cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to Safai Mitras under the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).
  2. Ayushman health cards provide access to cashless healthcare services under the government-sponsored Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
  3. PPE kits are essential for safeguarding frontline workers, such as sewer and septic tank workers, from health hazards and infections.

Government's Commitment to Marginalized Sections:

  1. The event reaffirmed the government's commitment to "Vanchiton Ko Variyata," prioritizing historically underserved communities.
